Tips for Creating a Solid Website Structure

If you are building a new website there are some things that you need to focus on to make sure your users are finding all of the information they need and desire.

One of the important parts about Search Engine Optimization is to ensure that your website is user friendly, offers the answer to their need and query, plus offers seamless movement throughout the site.

Offer plenty of white space so it's clean, simple, and not overwhelming. Not a lot of pop ups or flashing buttons. Fast loading. These are the type of things that annoy readers and make them click away quickly.

When thinking about the site that you want to build, there are few things that are expected and should be included in your site.

One of the first things is the About us or About me page. Your readers want to know who you are, where you're from, what you’re doing in business, what they have in common with you, and why should they recognize you as an expert in your business.

Let them know how to how to Contact you. Make it easy to find. Don't hide contact information. People want to be able to contact should the need arise and having to hunt for that on a site can be frustrating.

What about Your Services or Products? What are you offering? Are your descriptions accurate, full of keywords and descriptions to describe exactly what they need and what you're offering?

Also a Portfolio, if you do service work of any kind, or add a similar page to show some of the things you do. Maybe if you are a speaker, you may want to include an Event page where you show some of your events you've been at and where you going to be visiting. Don’t forget methods of attending as well.

Don't forget the Blog! Content is so important on a new website. It's going to be what helps you get ranked in the search engines and it's going to offer the valuable information your customer and reader is looking for from you. Make sure the content is relevant and that it is well optimized with keywords that are appropriate for the article you're featuring.

You may need other pages that would be important to add, depending on your work. Perhaps you are featured often in news stations or magazine articles. Then a Press page would be important. Perhaps you offer books, reports, products for sale. Of course, make sure there's a page to purchase your work.

Before creating your website, plan out your needs and write solid copy for each page, along with great graphics. Keep it clean and easy to flow through so you and your visitors get the most out of your website.
