Steps to Remove Self Doubt and Negative Thinking as a Small Business Owner

It happens. Even if we have fire and drive with plenty of motivation for our business, we can fall into the negative thinking trap that can lead us into self-doubt and down a path of destructive thinking.  It is a hard place to be in and one that we certainly do not want to stay.

So how do we deal with those feelings when it can cause stress and anxiety, not only in ourselves but also carry over to our business? There are some things that you can focus and work on to clear those negative feelings that brings about feelings of self-doubt and inadequacy.

Admit there is a Problem – It is hard to tell yourself that you are negative. Maybe others are telling you or you can feel it in the atmosphere in your business.  Acknowledgement that the issue is there and realizing you need to make a change is the first step.

Focus on the Issue – Fine the cause and deal with the issue that is causing your negative thinking. What do you need to do to release it? Is it lack of drive and focus in your business? Are you frustrated with the direction your business is going? You can turn it around.

Surround Yourself with Positivity – Find sources of positive thinking. Whether that is reading motivational material each day or even changing friends, you have to surround yourself with positive forces to clear the negativity.

Work on Positive Activities – Taking action with positive outcomes can really help with the negativity and self-doubt. What is important in your business? What caused you to create it? Perhaps you are stuck in the mundane activities that has crushed your drive and ambitions. Outsource the negative activities and start working on the positives. Even doing some things in your personal life, like donating your time to a nonprofit or something you are passionate about, can help you in business focus too.

Look to Structure – Perhaps you need structure in your life. If you are floating through with no goals or focus, that can cause many issues of negativity. Structure your day so you have positive activities mixed with the mundane and make sure to add in some fun things too. Make yourself accountable by setting up routines that make sense and cut work time to free up personal time.

Plan for the Future – There is nothing more positive than planning and working toward your future goals. Sit down and set your goals in attainable steps and start implementing them. Educate yourself in new methods to help achieve your goals quicker. Focus on the positive outcomes and celebrate each level you achieve in your goals.

Every business owner goes through times of self-doubt. You forget your why and lose focus. This brings in the negative thinking and that can be destructive to yourself and your business.  Take steps now to clear that negativity so you can be the best you all around.
