5 Tips for Overcoming Burnout as an Entrepreneur

There are good things and bad things about being an entrepreneur. On the good side you are free to set your own schedule. Free to work on projects that give you pleasure. Free to be creative and not have to answer to a boss.

On the not so good side, being an entrepreneur also means you end up doing a whole host of other things that you may not enjoy. Things that you may cause you stress and anxiety. Things that do not bring you income but are a necessary evil. Time constraints, frustrating issues and the learning curve are a big adjustment.

So it’s no wonder that many entrepreneurs suffer from burn out. How do you know if you’re suffering from burn out?

• Do you have feelings of confusion, panic, and an overwhelming lack of motivation?

• Have you lost your focus and your vision?

• Do you even remember why you were passionate about this project?

It can be hard to come back from burn out. So how do you keep moving forward when the frustration and lack of motivation have gotten to you?

5 Tips for Overcoming Burnout as an Entrepreneur

1. Start by taking some time off.

Working too many hours and focusing on only one area of your life can cause burn out. Schedule down time that you can spend with friends and family. Get back some of the life that you wanted to begin with. Plus, taking day or two off a week will help you rest properly and think clearly.

2. Revisit your goals and vision statements.

Refresh your memory has to your thought process behind starting your business. What were you searching for? What was important for you? Re-energize yourself by finding your passion again.

3. Outsource tasks that take you away from your income producing portions of the business.

That doesn’t necessarily mean having to pay someone. Just find new methods to achieve better results. There are plenty of tools and resources for mundane tasks that are critical for a business owner.

4. Do something for others.  

Start in your community and find a way to use your talents to benefit other people. Whether that be to volunteer for a nonprofit or simply working a few hours at the food bank, giving back gives us a sense of purpose and will refresh you of your goals and passion for your business.

5. Focus on what you love.

If you love working specific part of your job, then that’s where you need to readjust your business plan so that you can work on what you’re passionate about. They say, if there is a will, there is a way.

Burn out is a real tragedy for anyone. It’s hard to come back from that frustration and stay motivated. But using these five tips will help you stay away from that dreaded burn out. At the very least, be able to help you refocus and re-devote yourself to where you need to be on the road to success.
